World War Two followed with devastating results for Vienna. The capital was bombed many times, and many valuable buildings were destroyed, some of which were be repaired or replaced after 1945.
The National Contract was signed in Schloss Belvedere in 1955, and the occupational forces of Russia, Great Britain, USA and France left Austria. From this point on, Austria was a free, neutral state.
The Vienna [Wien - as called by locals] is a city of history and mainly Art , Music and Culture , ... where you will find numerous of Palaces , Music Theaters, Operas and Museums in every place.
Transportation and Shopping

A single day [24hr] pass will cost anywhere around 5 Euros and it is ideal to get 24hr pass than single ticket which will cost 1.8 Euros .. if longer stay required then it is advisable to weekly pass which cost merely 14 Euros.
Shopping is luxurious and expensive here .. apart from food items ..from cloths to fancy items .. everything is costly compare to other states.. main shopping areas are ..city center
If the Ringstrasse is the pulse of the city, the Innere Stadt (the old city) is the heart. This is where the city’s main attractions are located, and since it is a pedestrian zone, it is also a great place to stroll. For an overview, climb the bell tower of the 450-ft-/137-m-high St. Stephen’s Cathedral. The cathedral, built in 1258, is easily identifiable by the zigzag pattern of its roof tiles. Between St. Stephen’s and the State Opera House is Karntnerstrasse, Vienna’s main shopping street. Nearby is the Albertina museum, which houses more than 200 000 drawings (works by Albrecht Durer among others). At another corner of the old city is the Hofburg Palace, a massive complex that contains the Burgkapelle (the chapel where the Boys Choir sings Mass), the Stallburg (where the Spanish Riding School performs on Sunday mornings and Wednesday evenings), the Imperial Treasuries (Habsburg Crown Jewels), and the elaborate Austrian National Library.[extract from www.world66.com]
